Rosies Nightclub, Northgate Street, Chester (Formerly Quaintways) is to host its first nightclub event specifically aimed at people over 50 (The FlashBack) on Thursday, 25th January 2024.

The nightclub became Rosies in 1993 and is still a favourite hot spot for new generations hosting a wide range of music events and dance nights over its three floors. Many will recall the club hosting music icons including Thin Lizzy, Status Quo, Uriah Heap, Judas Priest, Fleetwood Mac and the Sex Pistols.

Rosies Duty Manager Gary Roberts was contacted by local resident Celia Hughes on behalf of the many over 50’s in Chester and the surrounding area, asking if an over 50’s night would be something the venue would consider?  Celia forwarded a news article from BBC Summerset, where a local night club had put on a night similar.  After watching the article, Gary decided it would be a great idea to put a night on for that age group, as no venue in North Wales and the Northwest is currently offering.

After deciding a date, Gary started looking for a local DJ who would be able to bring them iconic vibes back, and immediately contacted Ray Rose.

If you were a clubber from that golden era, starting from the mid-70s, frequented those iconic Chester venues which included Quaintways, Tiffanys, Cinderellas, Maxwells, Angels, High Society, Rendezvous and Rosies, the chances are you would have danced those nights away, hosted by Ray Rose.

Ray was well known on the club scene for many years, primarily as a soul music DJ, but also as an all-round music and beer enthusiast.

If by any chance, clubs weren’t your thing, his name may be familiar as a radio broadcaster, heard on Marcher Sound/MFM, Magic Network amongst other stations in the UK.

Ray is delighted to be hosting the new Flashback night, where guests can relive those halcyon days of “proper music, which had a groove and melody – the soundtrack of your life in your formative years. You would have danced, loved, laughed and cried to them all. Let’s do it again!”

Gary said “Rosies prides itself on being a welcoming and inclusive venue and we are delighted to break new ground with what is believed to be the first event of its kind specifically targeting people aged 50 plus, in Chester and possibly the Northwest of England”.

If successful, this will become a regular feature of Rosies events programme.

Celia commented “Lots of people remember with great fondness dancing the night away in Quaintways over the decades. There are few events specifically targeting people over 50 – it’s fantastic that Rosie’s have taken on my suggestion with such enthusiasm.  Many friendships and romances started off on the dance floors of Quaintways.”
