Official Chester Monopoly board game to be released

Official Monopoly Maker, Winning Moves UK have announced a brand new Chester edition of the iconic board game. Under licence from Hasbro, Winning Moves UK produces Monopoly editions for niche cities and places all over the world, including Palm Beach, Dubai and The Hamptons.

“We expect to be wonderfully spoilt with choices when putting this special edition board together,” says Yasmin East, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK. “A huge congratulations to Chester. Ten other cities across the world were in the race to ‘Pass GO,’ including Istanbul.”

In selecting Chester, the Winning Moves UK Team said a variety of factors were considered when producing the game, including: ‘Pride,’ ‘Sense of Community,’ ‘Glamour,’ ‘Environment Custodians,’ and ‘Heritage.’ East added, “Chester fits the bill perfectly for us.”

30+ Chester landmarks and favourites – like Chester Cathedral, the imposing Roman City Walls, and the Racecourse – will be showcased on the board, replacing the likes of ‘Mayfair’ and ‘Park Lane’ from the classic Monopoly original. The game first hit shelves in 1935 with the Race car, Thimble, Boot, Top Hat, and Battleship among the original set of Monopoly tokens while the Scottie Dog and Wheelbarrow were added in the early 1950s. Although the brand has evolved over the past 89 years, the gameplay and iconography has remained unchanged, making it a timeless classic sure to be enjoyed by future generations. Today, Monopoly is the world’s favourite family game brand and is enjoyed by more than one billion players in 114 countries across the globe.

The property sets will be themed in genres, from tourism to heritage, arts to business, entertainment to education, shopping to sports, and lots more.

The quartet of train stations from the original game will take on a ‘travel’ theme replacing the 4 main-line train stations in the original board game.

The Chance and Community Chest cards will be customised as well. For example, one card could advance players to the Chester equivalent of posh ‘Mayfair’ (the board’s top ranked space), which may very well be the Cathedral. Another card could send players ‘Back 3 Spaces’ for straying into Wales!

The public is invited to suggest Chester landmarks to be featured on famous MONOPOLY spaces, as well as the language on the Chance and Community Chest cards. Suggestions can be made in two ways: 1. By email to: chester@winningmoves.co.uk and 2. Via the official MONOPOLY: Chester Edition Facebook page. Nominations will be accepted for consideration from the 22nd March until the 4th April.

Over the last 30 years, Winning Moves UK has produced select official versions of Monopoly all over the world, from Palm Springs to Phuket and Dubai to Dublin. Now, the dice are landing on Chester.

The MONOPOLY: Chester Edition game is scheduled to hit shops this October.
