Nuance Coffee coming to Handbridge

Jake Daniels is the owner of Nuance Coffee , due to open next week in Handbridge.

Nuance will be offering speciality coffee, with Jake having worked in the industry for ten years in Chester, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester. “I’ve always wanted to run my own place” he says.

“I moved back from Manchester, I’m originally from North Wales and I really like Chester. Town has got some really good coffee shops now, but this place popped up, its in a nice area by the river. ” The building has had numerous occupiers over the years, most recently a financial advisors. Jake and his father have converted the building to modern standards and have aimed for a clean stripped down look with a post industrial/ Scandinavian feel.

The house offering will be a Colombian coffee from Leeds based roastery North Star. “Its rounded, nutty and chocolatey.” says Jake. ” I’ll always have a natural one, from Guatemala- if you have it with milk its almost like a milkshake, with fruity notes. We have got a filter bar for pour over coffee. Each month we are going to have a different guest Roastery. The first one is from Hackney.” Keen to stress the businesses ethical approach he notes that North Star deal directly with coffee farmers all over the road. .” If people are paying a little bit more than normal here, rest assured that that profit is going back to the original farmer, unlike the big coffee places, these guys are small.

“You’ll see on the independent coffee scene there are people experimenting and the next cool coffee comes out, but our supplier has stuck with the same farmers for years. ” As an independent, Jake is free to deal with any suppliers he chooses. “I’m trying to get coffee here that no one else does in Chester! I am just trying to be a bit different and use my experience in the industry. ” Alongside the coffee, Nuance will serve sourdough toasties with a regularly changing seasonal menu.

Nuance will open on Thursday 20th June in time for the Handbridge festival on Sunday the 23rd.
