SHARE (Supporting Homeless and Refugees everywhere) have announced plans to open a new Homeless Action Centre in Chester city centre. The charity, founded in 2016 have launched a fundraising drive in support of the plans. One of the founders of SHARE, Adam Dandy explains :

“Every day, people who are homeless face immense challenges and suffering, from the harsh realities of life on the streets to the constant struggle for basic necessities. The New SHARE Homeless Action Centre (SHAC) in Chester will aim to address these issues head-on, focusing on helping individuals see a light at the end of the tunnel and standing shoulder to shoulder with them as they navigate the hurdles and red tape in their way.

“Funded entirely by your generous donations, grants and part of our daily sales at Chester’s ShareShop, our new ShareSHAC will offer a lifeline to those in need. It will assist individuals on their journey towards a better, safer future off the streets and ultimately into their own homes. Every penny donated will be used directly to provide essentials such as hot food, warm drinks, and clothing, as well as a welcoming space for up to 40 people. Moreover, we will offer specialist addiction support, financial advice, and a variety of daytime activities, including an Arts Club and a new Repair and ReSHARE fixing workshop, to help tackle the main root causes of homelessness and improve people’s mental health. ”

The new centre will also provide a space for other agencies that SHARE work with so that support services can be offered and operated. Donations will also help to fund computers, provide online access, and offer 1-2-1 assistance with housing applications, job searches, family reconnections, and even voter registration.
