Storyhouse’s rendition of Oscar Wilde’s satirical comedy “The Importance of Being Earnest” is nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the theatre’s knack for delivering exceptional productions.
You can always rely on their costume team to deliver, and this play is no exception. The costumes are fantastic, perfectly reflecting the characters’ personalities and adding a vibrant layer to the performance.

One of the standout aspects of this production is the colour coordination. The distinct and
eye-catching palettes used for different locations, such as the city and the countryside,
enhance the visual appeal and help transport the audience seamlessly between settings.
Combined with the beautiful and intricate set design, the visual experience is truly
mesmerising.
What truly sets this performance apart, however, is the audience participation. Also a highlight in Gangs of New York, from start to finish, the entire theatre was filled with laughter. The actors ingeniously involved the audience, referring to us as friends of the characters and even transforming us into roses.
Cecily’s playful interaction, showering us with her watering can, was a delightful touch that
brought the audience into the heart of the performance.

The actors’ performances were nothing short of brilliant. Each character was brought to life
with a bubbly, engaging, and absurdly funny portrayal that stayed true to Wilde’s classic –
with even a few unique and very impressive musical numbers thrown in there. Their energy
and comedic timing kept us entertained throughout, earning them a well-deserved standing ovation at the end.
Overall, this production is a perfect 10/10. Whether you’re a fan of Oscar Wilde or just
looking for a fun night out, you should definitely go and see “The Importance of Being
Earnest” at Storyhouse. It’s a delightful experience that you won’t want to miss.
The show runs until the 1st September
