Following the spectacular light and sound experience “Discovery” at Chester Cathedral in February, creators Luxmuralis will be returning in 2025 with a new creation entitled “Poppy Fields”
Discovery is designed to enable people to explore and contemplate the contributions of science and human understanding of the physical world around us.
Poppy Fields will run from Tuesday 18 – Saturday 22 February 2025. The Cathedral say that:
“Poppy Fields will be a poignant and moving sound and light show that will take you on an immersive journey through fine art sound and light installations which transform the Cathedral spaces creating a walking curated experience.”
Poppy Fields will utilise a brand-new route around the Cathedral, with a reduced number of people entering per session via the south west porch.
The 2025 show incorporates a collection of fine art projection artworks that reflect on the end of World War One and World War Two, but more importantly look at the hopes and wishes for peace in our world and the future.
During Poppy Fields there is footage of war poetry – passages from Wilfred Owen, Charlotte Mews, William Noel Hodgson, authors who wrote from the frontline or during the war – read by Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne OBE.
Amongst the installations is a light and sound artwork created as a tribute to the NHS, which looks at nursing through history and the roles of nurses such as Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole, the role nurses play today as well as on the frontline.
