North Light on Northgate street/ coachworks arcade have ceased trading with a sign attached to the front doors saying the business is “permanently closed” .Occupying a prime 8,600 square foot space location in the Northgate development, the bar/ restaurant opened in May 2023. Owners New World Trading Company previously closed 3 of their sites in October 2024, including The Florist in Liverpool , and The Botanist in Alderley Edge and Knutsford.

The North Light website confirms the venue is closed when a booking attempt is made, and Google and Facebook confirms the business as “permanently closed”.

The North Light concept was developed specifically for Chester by New World Trading Company, offering a “modern distinctive, Chester-centric venue with a creative edge, built around the history of the city” .

  1. According to Companies House, they basically went bust last year but in October 2024 entered into voluntary arrangements with their creditors to carry on trading to try and pay off their significant debts. Sounds like this hasn’t worked. Another company with a poor business model I’m guessing. Sent from my Motorola Dynatax 8000X

  2. Pretty expensive (even for Chester), and they recently decided to stop providing proper allergen coverage for their menu (basically made it ‘at your own peril’) which stopped my friends and family buying food there. Shame, the manager was a nice guy, and it is a nice spot.

    • Not surprising – outside of the races these places are empty, and the crazy rates/rent charges must make that a very expensive empty space.
