Chester Heritage Festival holds free Gin tasting events at historic venue

Chester Heritage Festival are holding a series of free gin tasting events at the historic God’s Providence House on Watergate street; home to Providence Gin.

Providence Gin sell over 400 varieties of Gin

“Providence and Proof” on Wednesday 5th March (7pm onwards) promises a blend of gin tasting and shedding light on what helps to make the home of Providence Gin special. The evening includes gin tasting from Henstone Distillery with cheese samples from the Cheese Wedge and live music.

Former heritage interpretation officer Paul Hyde will deliver an illustrated talk about the building and its place in Chester’s history on one of the most ancient streets un Britain. Watergate/ Eastgate streets formed the Via Principalis in Roman times. The unique rows were in place by 1350. Paul is the star of the Heritage Festival’s series of “4 minute wonder” videos. Paul will also explore the truth behind the local folklore that states that God’s Providence House was the only house on the street to survive a plague outbreak.
