Independent design retailer Utility are opening a store in Chester on Eastgate row.
Signage is now up on former OFFICE shoes unit, which has been vacant since September 2020. Utility were founded in Liverpool in 1999 with their first store opening on Bold Street. The company now has stores across the North West, in Liverpool, Manchester and Altrincham.
Utility sell gifts, cards, stationery, homeware and jewellery and describe themselves as having a “passion for finding the new, unique, quirky cool and very best in design.” They pride themselves on being independent with no shareholders to answer to, making decisions that are right for themselves and their customers.

Vacancies for Store Manager, Deputy Manager and sales assistants are now online, with a closing date of March 28th.
The new store will join other recent and upcoming arrivals to the city’s retail offering, including Soctopus, Scribbler, Oliver Brown Menswear, Brook Taverner, Edinburgj Woollen Mill, Rieker shoes (watergate street) as well as the forthcoming Harrods Beauty.
“Utility” selling stationary (sic). They won’t get very far spelling it that way. Always remember a typist giving me a good reminder of how to spell the right way: For stationery, think of “e” for envelope.
