Chester Repair Cafe celebrates 100 repairs

Chester Repair Cafe Celebrates Milestone 100th Repair

Chester Repair Cafe, a community-driven initiative aimed at reducing waste and promoting sustainability, is thrilled to have completed its 100th successful repair, just six months after opening its doors to the public in October 2024.

This achievement underscores the growing demand for repair services and reflects the cafe’s dedication to promoting a circular economy, where items are reused, repaired, and kept out of landfills.

Set up by Friends of the Earth Chester & District and funded by voluntary donations and Cheshire West Crowd, Chester Repair Cafe has offered repair services for a wide variety of household items. In the first six months, Chester Repair Cafe repaired toasters, vacuum cleaners, clothing, bikes, and even a 68 year old teddy bear, with the 100th repair being a Jute Bag.

This milestone repair marks a significant moment in the cafe’s journey, which has seen volunteers work together to fix broken items, foster a culture of sustainability, and help reduce consumer waste in the local community. “We are absolutely thrilled to reach 100 successful repairs so quickly,” said Kerry, Coordinator of Chester Repair Cafe. “This milestone is a testament to the growing interest in sustainability and the power of community. People are eager to learn how to repair items and keep them in use rather than throwing them away. We’re proud to be a part of that movement and grateful for the support we’ve received from volunteers and visitors.”

The Chester Repair Cafe has quickly become a valued resource for the community, not only for reducing waste but also for bringing people together. The cafe provides a welcoming space where individuals of all ages can connect, share skills, and collaborate to repair items that may have otherwise been discarded. Repair experts, including local tradespeople and hobbyists, volunteer their time and expertise to guide participants through the repair process. “We’ve had so many wonderful stories from people who have learned new skills, met others in the community, and saved items that were precious to them,” added Kerry.
