Chester author releases debut novel “The Triton Run”

Local author Paul Edwards is releasing his debut novel, science fiction epic “The Triton Run”. The book will be published on 20 March by Northodox Press, a fast growing independent press that focuses on northern writers.

Author Paul Edwards

Paul Edwards was born in Liverpool and now lives in Curzon Park. He works in Liverpool as a lawyer. Says Paul. ” I’ve been writing the book for a few years, squeezing it between work and a hectic family life. It’s only recently that I told work that I had been writing it. I write at any opportunity, often at Anfield before kick off! I have become a proud Cestrian and my wife works locally. I’ve written since I was a child, but it was only recently that I became determined to achieve my ambition.”

Paul’s novel holds a mirror to the world with themes of terrorism, loss of citizenship and war crimes:

“In the depths of the Kuiper belt, a collision between a science vessel and a lifeless alien ship sends shockwaves through the solar system. As a desperate salvage mission is launched, notorious war criminal Dee Wilding emerges as the only survivor. Bruce Parynski, an experienced ferryman, finds himself embarking on a seemingly routine mission to deliver the Skydancer to Triton. However, with terrorism spreading like wildfire, Parynski’s journey takes an unexpected turn as he races against time to save his daughter and her friends from danger. The Triton Run is a gripping and heart-pounding space opera. The surviving members of Dee Wilding’s squad, haunted by the scars of their past and the unspeakable horrors they once committed, find themselves on this fast-paced odyssey, where redemption and enlightenment collide.”

The main character is a “ferryman” inspired by Paul’s research into pilots who travel around the world to inhospitable places, or across oceans that small planes should not be capable of traversing. The book is populated by morally grey characters, and is set against the backdrop of a traditional science fiction story including first contact with aliens and a Space Elevator.

Northodox Press are a growing publisher that seek to give northern writers a voice might not have the opportunity to be heard otherwise. ·They only accept authors born in, or living in the North West of England. Northodox describe that their mission is to “elevate northern voices and represent the diversity of writing from Northern England,” looking for those “exhausted by a book market oversaturated with stories of a London-centric Britain or the cozy Cotswolds”

Paul, who is working on three other books, Offers advice to writers, saying: ” Write! You can’t edit or improve a blank page. Find anytime you can to get words on the page, you can fix problems with the story or grammar later. The more you write, the better you get. I ditched 60,000 words or more from the first draft of The Triton Run!”
