Town Crier launches Chester Gondola Rides

OYEZ! THE LAUNCH OF CHESTER GONDOLA RIDES!

Chester’s Town crier, David Mitchell, is excited to proclaim the forthcoming launch of an exciting new tourist attraction:

Gondola rides on the Shropshire-Union Canal!

Chester will soon become be the first city outside Venice to offer this romantic mode of travel. David explains:

“I happened to be looking at a photograph of the Bridge of Sighs in Venice. As is often the case, a gondola was passing under the bridge in the photo. I thought about our own Bridge of Sighs, on the canal beneath the Northgate, and thought, ‘Why don’t we replicate the gondola feature as well?’ Of course, getting a gondola was the challenge. I eventually contacted a boatyard in Venice who agreed to build a gondola to my specification and ship it over to Chester. My gondola, painted in the same colours as my town crier livery, is currently in a container ship on the high seas and is expected to arrive in Chester within the next ten days.”

“My wife and I are both lovers of Italian culture, so we intend to add other Italian flavours to the gondola experience. Specifically, we are in negotiation with a well-known hospitality venue on the canal to offer pizza and gelato stops on the trip. But the most urgent need is to recruit a team of gondoliers to steer the gondola. I am looking for four individuals who are fit and strong. A good singing voice would be an advantage. Gondolier outfits will be supplied. No previous experience necessary!”
