Read Construction and Brio Leisure join forces for Chester Litter Pick

A team of 16 volunteers from Read Construction and Brio spent their Wednesday afternoon cleaning areas around Victoria Road and St. Anne Street in Chester as part of the Great British Spring Clean.

The group collected 20 bags of waste including cans, plastic wrappings, and cigarette ends helping to improve the local environment

The initiative aimed to give back to the local community while Read Construction carries out the refurbishment of Brio’s Northgate Arena, set for completion in Spring 2026.

“We always want to leave a positive mark wherever we work.”, said Kasia Williamson, Improvement and Engagement Manager at Read Construction. “The British Spring Clean is a great way to say thanks and do our bit to help improve the local area”.

Wellbeing is a shared priority for both Read Construction and Brio, with initiatives like this being a great way for staff to stay active and engaged. “Encouraging our teams to get outside, stretch their legs, and do something different, is a great way to unwind, while making a difference”, Williamson added.

Brio Leisure, whose Northgate site continues to offer fitness services for customers during the refurbishment period, welcomed the chance to collaborate with Read. Williamson added, “This is the first time we’ve had a team join us on our litter picks, so it’s great to build on the strong relationship we already have”.

A Brio spokesperson echoed this sentiment, stating, “We had a wonderful afternoon collaborating with Read, chatting with locals, and making a positive impact in our community’.

  1. What an inspiring read, after all the despondency in the news at the moment. Of course there shouldn’t be any litter there to collect. However the general public awareness can’t be improved overnight, and this initiative requires even more publicity. Well done to them all!
