Operated by local brewers Spitting Feathers, The Station Tap is now open at the entrance to the train station. The new bar inside the grade II listed building, which has been lying empty and neglected for years will offer a much improved welcome to travellers and visitors to the area.
General manager Chloe commented : ” We realised there wasn’t much going on at the train station apart from chains, so we wanted to create our own craft beer corner, right on the doorstep. “ Visitors can select from a choice of 28 local beers, with takeaway options, coffee (from 6am) and food. Breakfast will be served from 7-11, with the main menu, including burgers and pies served from 1130 til 9. All food will be available for takeaway alongside a selection of cakes and pastries. Alcohol will be served from 11am, with the bar closing at 11pm most evenings.
Bar manager Ian explained that a huge amount of work has taken place to transform the space, with the process having been two years in the planning. During renovation a false plaster ceiling was discovered , revealing previously hidden historic features. This led to the plans and design work being altered to accommodate the discovery. A successful crowdfunding appeal raised over £50,000 to help fund the restoration. ” It had a tiny plateau in the middle, there was a bit of fear for a short moment. In the final week, the people of Chester, and the country pulled through and we smashed it!” says Chloe.

The Station Tap Room is Spitting Feather’s third venue following The Brewery Tap on Lower Bridge street, which opened in 2008, and the West Kirby Tap (2014).
