The Welsh Dee Trust is a charity working across the entire River Dee catchment, from the source of the river in Wales, through Cheshire and Chester and on to the estuary. Their projects focus on restoring river habitats, reducing pollution, and empowering local communities through education and citizen science.

This week the Trust has been selected to take part in the national Green Match Fund by Big Give, running from 22nd–29th April 2025.
During this one-week campaign, every donation made via the Big Give platform will be doubled, meaning your support goes twice as far to help achieve their vision of a River Dee free of pollution and full of wildlife.
This year, your donations will help the Trust:
- Tackle key pollution hotspots,
- Restore and rewild damaged sections of the river,
- Train more volunteers to monitor water quality and river life.
Donate between 22nd–29th April and your gift will be matched at: https://donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05WS000001g7m5YAA?c=76918
The team at the Welsh Dee Trust hope this will be a turning point for the River Dee commenting that : “by working together, we can all create a cleaner, healthier future for our river, our communities, and the incredible wildlife that calls it home.”
There are lots of opportunities for residents of Chester to get involved, from tree planting to water quality monitoring via citizen science projects, right through to paddle-boarding litter picks.
