Poise Dance Studio which opened its doors in Boughton last year are celebrating their first birthday with a showcase event at St Marys Creative Space on the 9th May.

Founder Alicia established the inclusive dance, fitness and wellbeing space at 25 Christleton Road, telling our blog last year that she was a “huge advocate of dance being for everyone, doesn’t matter if you’re male or female, doesn’t matter what age you are, what ability, what size you are. Everyone should feel welcome to come and try exercise or dance!”

“Our first year couldn’t have gone better with a huge positive reaction and steady growth, yet this is just the beginning. ” says Alicia. ” Coming up soon will be more workshops, day time Community lead classes and even something for more pro dancers!”

“We had our first performance opportunity at Christmas for the Hoole lights switch on which is definitely up there but for me the biggest high is the community! I’ve met so many wonderful people through the studio who are just so inspiring. They come in and give it there all in class, even when they’re not feeling their best, and I am in awe of them.

“The positive impact the studio has had is so special to me. Watching people stepping out of their comfort zone, growing and flourishing is just magic and a true privilege to watch. People come to do a class but they leave with more confidence and friendships. Not only that, but to have some many different kinds of bodies come into the studio and feel seen and welcome – the cherry on the cake. My goal was to create a space where anyone felt they could come enjoy the many benefits of dance and exercise, and Poise is just that.”

On the showcase event she says: “For the past 2 months, everyone has been working so hard to bring our very first showcase to life. This will also be the first performance for many of our dancers, so it’s going to be really special. Working towards a shared goal such like a show really brings people together. The comradery these guys have is easy to see in class and outside of the studio too. Its going to be an evening of passion, enthusiasm and joy! It’s going to be a magical evening of dance, entertainment and passion, proving your never too old and it’s not too late!”

Meanwhile on Sunday 25th May, the Studio will be holding an open day. A packed programme on the day includes: taster classes in dance and fitness, taster PTs and massages and pop up shops from @jclondon_official and @twentyone09uk. Refreshments, goody bags and cake will be available as well as the chance to won a years free membership at Poise.
