Laura Heywood, owner of The Scented Garden Retreat attended His Majesty The King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace today (14th May) in recognition of her exceptional contributions to education & skills development.
What began as humble beginnings in a small shop ( see https://thechesterblog.com/2023/01/16/the-scented-garden-retreat/ ) – made possible through a start-up loan from The Prince’s Trust – has grown into a flourishing spa business with two retreat locations and a strong focus on community impact. The business has won many local & national business awards, but beyond her business success, Laura has dedicated herself to empowering young people & advocating for mental health & wellbeing in education & supporting local LGBTQ+ communities.
As a volunteer Governor at her local High School, she plays an active role in supporting wellbeing strategies for students, ensuring young learners thrive & develop emotional resilience. This is through weekly assemblies & classes on relaxation techniques.
“To be invited to the King’s Garden party for services to education & skills is such an honour” said Laura. “It’s a beautiful recognition not just of my business journey, but of the work we’re doing to support children’s mental health, especially at a time when its needed more than ever.”
After meeting the King earlier today she commented: ” I thanked him for his Trust and that this year I would be celebrating 30 years. He asked my business name and knew we did holistic therapies and I thanked him for raising awareness to our industry. He said the trust is celebrating 50 years next year but everyone will be hunched over because of all of the hard work they have been doing. He was with me 4 mins and a great conversation.”
