Joanne Dinnen founded Zealots Roastery in Holywell in 2017 and later moved production to Mold. The roasting and production side of the business is close to the road network and easy for the locally based based global courier service to deliver their goods.

The Chester outlet outlet opened 18 months ago. “The idea is to have somewhere people can come in and learn more about the coffee, they can taste before they buy it and they can learn how to make it properly at home. Customers of our clients were constantly asking where they could buy our range for home use, here you can also pick up invaluable tips on how to get the best out of it.” says Joanne. As well as offering coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and wellness goods, the venue serves as a showroom for coffee making equipment and accessories, and is laid out in a style that reflects Joanne’s artistic background featuring vintage fixtures that give the mixed feel of a beauty salon or a museum. ” All teas are blended in-house and we have blends to help relieve anxiety, boost immunity and even skin health as well as traditional blends and ceremonial matcha. The latest addition to the range are functional mushrooms building on their wellness products. “

Visitors can browse the displays: “Whether they have £5 for a pour over, or 20 quid for an Aeropress, or they want to buy a Sage machine. “ SIP includes a refurbished marble topped ex Tesco coffee bar, and goods displayed in Harrods safes, that all add to a quirky browsing experience. “”People don’t seem to want to make the effort with retail anymore so I wanted a place where somebody would be happy to be in here. “

The business have recently added new lighting , with the tinted windows previously making passers by thinking they were closed. Joanne is keen to share her expert knowledge of coffee.

“The commercial side is very busy. we roast just under 300 kilos a week, its a big operation. Coffee is sourced from all over the world. When you taste a single origin as opposed to a blend, blends are quite flat. With wine if you start blending grapes its not as good as a single grape and its the same with coffee. A lot more people are doing single origin now. We supply House of Sumatra in Chester Zoo, all of our products are sold in there, a lot of hotel groups, we work with Share Shop.” Joanne is looking to further boost visibility and is considering tasting events in the future.

“We did the Food and Drink festival and we’ve noticed there are new faces every day now”! says Joanne.
