Picturehouse has announced its support for Chester Green Weekend and the national Big Green Week by putting on a special programme of films during the week which support green initiatives and climate change. Chester’s Green Weekend is happening on June 15th and 16th, with the Big Green Week June 9th to 16th.

Showing on Thursday June 13th ‘Wilding’, written and directed by Emmy Award winning director David Allen, is a documentary style film about a couple and their journey into the biggest rewilding project in Europe.

Showing on Sunday June 16th ‘Elephant Mother’ looks at the true story of Lek Chailerk, a Thai woman who takes on the animal tourism industry to save elephants from their cruel conditions. Lek Chailerk will be visiting Chester for the screening and introducing the film. 

.A full programme of films will be announced closer to the Big Green Week.

“By hosting this series of green films, we aim to spark conversations and ignite action within our community,” says Picturehouse manager Susanne Hodder. “Film has a unique power to educate and inspire and we believe that by offering these impactful narratives, we can empower our audience to make positive changes for our planet.”

Jane Harrad-Roberts is the Project Director for Green Expo 2024, she said; “Amidst growing concerns about climate change and sustainability, Picturehouse is really taking a step forward by curating a selection of films that not only entertain but also inspire audiences to engage with pressing environmental issues.
