Children under 16 will go free on The Guild of Chester Tour Guides new guided Walls Walk (with a paying adult). The walk is launching in time for Cheshire Day (30th March).
Chester boasts the most complete circuit of city walls in the country, a popular promenade today with views on both sides across the many delights our charming historic city enjoys. The Guild are offering locals and visitors alike the opportunity to complete the full 2-mile circuit of the city Walls on a guided walking tour, and earn a “I Walked the Walls” certificate. Children (under 16) go free with an accompanying adult and will be given a mini “treasure hunt” to complete along the way. So, while the youngsters are busy trying to spot the answers, the adults can focus as the Guide unravels Chester’s incredible 2,000 years of history. From the magnificent vantage point of the city Walls, you will be shown where evidence of Chester’s fascinating story can still be seen, from the Roman fortress right through to the present day.
The Guild of Chester Tour Guides is the local organisation for internationally recognised professional Blue and Green Badge Tour Guides. All registered Guides have met the rigorous training standards of the ITG (Institute of Tourist Guiding) and are fully ensured to conduct public tours.
In addition to the free offer on the Walls walk the Guild have announced that from Cheshire Day on 30th March, that for the first time in their 40+ year history, kids go free on all their public walking tours. “We’ve noticed that sometimes parents would love to join a walking tour, but maybe the kids aren’t quite so keen! So we thought why not help out cash-strapped parents by making sure they don’t have to pay for the youngsters at all? And you never know, it might turn out that the kids enjoy their tour experience as much as Mum and Dad… Our Guides know all the best vantage points for viewing Chester at its finest, so budding Instagram stars can enjoy capturing those perfect images. Along the way, as well as pointing out all the other attractions you might enjoy, we’ll also make sure you know what else is going on around the city during your visit. Chester has such a vibrant street scene with many street parades and performances throughout the year – you really wouldn’t want to miss bagging the best viewpoint.”

Chester’s guided Walls Walk takes place every Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm, starting at the Town Hall Visitor Information Centre on Northgate Street. The tour will be running until the end of October. Allow approximately two hours for the full circuit. Tickets are available on the day direct from the Guide: £10 per person; up to two under 16s free with accompanying adult. The walk is not suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs or those with walking difficulties due to multiple steps along the way. We recommend The Chester Tour as an alternative which takes place every day at 10.30am and again at 2pm from Good Friday until end October
