The newest addition to the Chester food and drink scene is set to open its doors on the 12th July in the former library building on Northgate street creating 70 jobs. The new restaurant is the first part of the Northgate development to open. Owners Loungers say that they can’t wait to “bring a touch of glamour and our fresh, modern menu to the food scene”

Cosy Club under construction

Cosy Club is located within the exquisite terracotta façade of the former Westminster Coach and Carriage Works, first built in 1914, although there has been a coachworks on the Northgate site since 1870. The façade’s central arch will form Coachworks arcade leading to the new public square, market and cinema scheduled to open in the autumn.

Cosy Club owned by Loungers are a small chain with restaurants in locations including Liverpool, York and Manchester, serving British, European and Asian dishes with a nod to North America. Cosy Club offer relaxed all day dining and drinking with all-day menus featuring fresh and modern classics, extensive brunch, gluten free and vegan menus. Cosy Club say that their food is “classic, comforting and familiar, elevated by excellent ingredients and beautiful presentation, bringing emerging trends to customers in an accessible way, to ensure that an everyday bite can be a unique and delightful experience.” As well as casual dining Cosy Club offer a warm welcome for group dining and special occasions.

The overall style of the restaurant takes inspiration from the Aesthetic movement and the ebonised late Victorian furniture. The décor includes nods to the buildings heritage as a motor works with motoring memorabilia within the cabinets and the artwork. The panelling throughout has been influenced by the William Morris room in the V&A, with intricate fabric by Morris featured within the panels themselves. The magnificent wooden aesthetic movement lights were made bespoke for the building.

Offers include ‘Boundless Brunch’ – bottomless brunch, add unlimited drinks to any breakfast dish for £25 per person. Includes Prosecco, Bloody Mary’s, and Classic Mimosas. Available from 10am – 11.30am. Teatime Tipple offers 2 cocktails for £11.95 between 4pm-8pm Sunday-Thursday.

Hux Norman, Property and Acquisitions Manager of Cosy Club commented “Chester Northgate is an exemplary scheme, one which Loungers have been eager to open in for a number of years. The building is beautiful, and we think that the scheme will become the new centre of Chester. We can’t wait to bring our eccentric style and fresh, modern menu to the food scene”
