Chick- fil -A (UK) have submitted a planning application to demolish and develop the former Frankie and Benny’s Unit on the Greyhound Retail Park. Later occupied by furniture retailer Natuzzi, the applicants seek to demolish the existing building and build a single storey restaurant with a drive through lane.
The planning documents state :
“To facilitate the drive-through arrangement, on-site car parking will be reduced to 20 car
parking spaces, comprising 16 standard sized parking bays, 2 electric vehicle charging
spaces and 2 accessible bays. In addition, the provision of cycle shelter accommodating
eight spaces via four Sheffield-type hoop stands will be provided.
The building will be constructed from modern material palettes including red brick, dark
bronze cladding and timber effect panels”
Chick-fil- A operate over 3000 restaurants across the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico. In the UK, they have a restaurant in Leeds which opened in October 2025 and 2 branches in Northern Ireland. The company have attracted controversy in America due to the conservative views of the company chairman and his views on gay marriage. The planning application states that the company will make a donation to a local charity to mark their opening , as well as participate in a “Shared Table” scheme whereby unsold food is locally donated.
If successful the new restaurant will sit opposite the recently opened Ikea.
The planning application 25/03711/FUL can be viewed on the council website.
