Space themed Chester Raft Race takes place on 12 July

Popular annual event Chester Raft Race is back this Sunday for the 51st annual race. Organised by Chester Grosvenor Round Table, the event is one of the highlights of the Chester calendar of events. This year the race will see teams embrace the space theme, with rockets, aliens and spaceships expected on the water.

First rafts will launch from the event village on the meadows at 10am , with the last rafts at 1230. The event village on the Meadows will be open from 10 until 430. It will include a beer tent from the Harker’s Arms , family friendly rides, games and entertainment, an ice cream van and 7 food drinks plus gourmet coffee and hot drinks. There will be live music from 1230 until 2, followed by an award ceremony with city dignitaries.

This year’s event will support Chester-based charity SPACE, which provides accessible play and support for children with additional needs, and the Martin Gallier Project, a suicide prevention service helping people across the North West. A raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses will be taking place on the day.

The Chester Raft Race is one of the city’s longest-running community events, with its roots dating back to the late 1970s as part of the River Pageant. Over the years, it has grown into a much-loved annual charity event, bringing together local teams, businesses, and thousands of spectators for a day of fun, creativity, and friendly competition on the river, all while raising money for local good causes.
