A quiz organised by a well-known Chester blogger has raised a record amount of money following generous match funding from a local business. 

Blogger and Quizmaster Richard Trotter staged the quiz at Chester Market earlier this year, with all proceeds going to the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. With an Impressive £1,450 raised on the night, making it the most successful of Richard’s events to date, local business URENCO have pledged double match funding of £3,000 taking the total to an incredible £4,450.

Held in May, the quiz was the second such event to be staged by Richard this year. A previous quiz in January raised £1300.00 for the previous Lord Mayor of Chester’s charities Chester Women’s Aid and Upton based Youth Club The Heath. 

Best known for his legendary Twitter account Sh*t Chester and website The Chester Blog, which actively promotes and raises the profile of the City, its local businesses and cultural events, Richard also built and continues to curate the highly popular and ever-evolving ‘Chester in Lego’ exhibit at Chester Market. 

Alongside the quiz, the evening also included music from singer Stephen Lockhart, interval entertainment from Poise Dance Studio, an auction hosted by Dee106.3’s Gavin Matthews and medieval medicine courtesy of Godfrey Garland (reenactor Mike Graham). 

The special fund raising event also featured a raffle with prizes donated by numerous local businesses including Roly’s Fudge, Kate Smallwood Ceramics, Vain Homme, Chester BID, Whisky and Wine Tasting by Mr Gresty, Soulspace Chester, Crowne Plaza, Restaurant 209, Cheshire Home Store, Spuds 4U, Acorn Counselling, Tanners Wines, Ristorante Sergio, Oddfellows, Picturehouse, Thingummys, Geoff Hughes Butcher, Barlounge, Upstairs at the Grill, Lux Nails, Chester Foodie Tours, Chester On a Plate Food Tours, Pastry Pedaleur, Bookingham Palace, The Cellar Bar, The Cornerhouse, Cardvenir, Olive Hypnotherapy and Pop n Shop. 

Speaking about the quiz, Richard said “Thank you to everyone that supported the event and helped out on the night. I am looking forward to working with another charity at the next quiz which will take place in October”

Tanya Simpson from Clatterbridge Cancer Charity said “We are so grateful to everyone who attended and supported the recent quiz at Chester Market; it was such a lovely evening and the money raised will really help us be there for local people with cancer. Thanks also to URENCO for kindly double match funding the amount raised, with that money going to support our Halton appeal for the refurbishment and upgrade of our treatment unit there. These works will mean we can provide more treatments there for more patients in a much improved environment, so we are incredibly grateful for that support.”
