People Planet Pint (PPP) was started in 2021 at COP26 in Glasgow, in a back room of a pub there. It now runs in more than 130 cities across 10 countries, with roughly 80 events a month.

Chester’s PPP started in March 2023 by Helen Tandy founder of Eco Communities, a Chester based not for profit.
Sometimes a change is as good as a rest, and People Planet Pint (PPP) in Chester has relocated the monthly evening events to The Pied Bull in Northgate Street.
The Chester PPP meetups are every 3rd Thursday in the month and you can register here: https://ecocommunitiesuk.com/events/ you can then stay on for the Pied Bull 9pm. quiz after this event. This month’s event is Thursday, October 15th at 7pm.
Like-minded people talk about the planet over a pint (or two). You don’t need to be a sustainability professional. You don’t need to know what “Scope 3” means (most people don’t!).
If you’re curious about what’s going on locally and feel that a better future is possible – come along to meet others like you and chat about what’s going on locally, how to get involved and what solutions are out there.
The Pied Bull, Northgate Street is Chester’s oldest coaching inn; it dates back to 1155 and since 2009 has been trading as an independent business. It was chosen for its green credentials following a 2024 refurbishment covering both the exterior and interior of the pub and restaurant which also included work to reduce the environmental impact of the business.
The Pied Bull is now a pub, restaurant and thirty one bedroom hotel, with a microbrewery and a secret beer garden. Two adjacent buildings including the grade II listed Folliot House have been converted to provide twenty of the bedrooms.
Back in May Eco Communities successfully raised crowd funding from 78 backers including the Climate Change Emergency Fund and Community Innovation Fund at Cheshire West and Chester Council to grow its circular economy projects in the region Full Circle.
Funders for the projects carried out by Eco Community said:
“Amazing work you guys are doing. Keep going! You ARE making a difference. This is my way of acknowledging World Earth Day, in Cheshire and the North West UK.”
“This is a fantastic project and I’m delighted to support it with a donation.”
“This is such an important project for our community and for its future. Great job!”
Helen Tandy from Eco Communities said: “Communities across Cheshire West are calling for practical, everyday ways to move away from a throwaway culture and towards a more circular way of living – where items are repaired, reused and shared rather than binned.”
“Previous generations repaired and repurposed. We want to bring that mindset back to Cheshire West,” Helen added. “Some of these projects already exist locally. Others are still dreams but we can only move forward with community support.”
