Mini Eisteddfod Comes to Chester in July

Mini Eisteddfod’ Set to Return to Chester

Mini Eisteddfod’ Street Festival to take place in Chester city centre in partnership with St Mary’s Creative Space

St Mary’s Creative Space in Chester and the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod are once again teaming up to bring a miniature version of the iconic festival to Chester city centre.

The four-day event will begin with a ‘mini Eisteddfod’ International Street Festival on Monday 3rd July starting at 12 noon, featuring a vibrant and colourful display of music and dance from performers across the globe.

Building on the success of last year’s collaboration, there will also be three evening concerts taking place in St Mary’s Creative Space on Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th July, with a host of exciting shows soon to be revealed.

The concerts will feature Eisteddfod International Competitors performing in collaboration with local Chester performers in a fusion of incredible talent from across the globe, sharing the joy of music in the most intimate setting of one of Chester’s most atmospheric arts spaces, situated on St Mary’s Hill.

Running in tandem with events taking place at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod’s 70th anniversary festival, the collaboration – which is sponsored by solicitor’s firm Russell & Russell – also boasts the support of the award winning Theatre in the Quarter, which is renowned for bringing communities together.

Eilir Owen Griffiths, Music Director at the International Eisteddfod, said: “Once again bringing the joy and wealth of international talent of the Eisteddfod to Chester is a wonderful opportunity, especially as we celebrate our 70th anniversary.

“We are finalising our exciting plans for the ‘mini Eisteddfod’ and will be releasing further details of the performances very soon.”

Artistic Director of Theatre in the Quarter, Matt Baker, said: “Last year I was totally blown away with the energy and diversity of the performers from across the globe.

“They descended upon our intimate venue, met fellow local artists, and thrilled our audiences before making their way to the grandeur of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. It was simply incredible for all concerned.
