“I’ve tagged us in on facebook!” says a new regular customer to Nice Bites, the latest addition to the Market hall. Experienced chef Stuart Fenney, who has worked in many of Chester’s restaurants over the years has launched his new venture offering freshly cooked food in the former pet shop unit at the back of the market. Nice Bites offers a fresh, versatile and alternative takeaway option.
Stuart, who won an award for his Chef talents in 2009, has worked in Moules a go go, The Ring o bells and others during his career.

“I wanted to do something on my own, I kept bumping heads with head chefs whenever I was putting my own ideas forward, and thought “theres only one way to do this” so here I am on my own.

“I always said that I wanted to do a market, because street food markets are so popular in London and Manchester. That’s what my food is. You can have your bites when you’re walking around, theres no knives and forks. Chester hasn’t got anything like this, so why not give it a go and see what happens. Its somewhere to start!” he says.
The menu includes chicken, belly pork, chorizo available in wraps or with salad and with a range of seasoning and flavourings. Stuart also offers sides including sweet potato fries and corn on the cob.

“Everything is cooked fresh in front of you. Nothing is in my fridge for more than 2 days.” Stuart stocks up each morning with meat and salad items from traders in the market.
Stuart has known Paula of the neighbouring trader “PS I love cake” for many years. (See https://thechesterblog.com/2016/05/18/ps-i-love-cake/)
“I’ve known Paula for nearly 4 years, we worked together at Moules a go go, on the starter section and the mains section. We’ve been all over the place.” It was Paula who told Stuart about opportunities in the market , when the long serving pet shop closed down and was separated into 2 units.
He says his new job is “a lot different from working in Moules a go go, because it was fast paced, busy and that’s what I was trained to do. To start my own business…its a bit slower and I’d like it to pick up the pace and get more of a kitchen feel to it. I’m doing everything. washing the pots, taking the orders, cleaning the tables, cooking the food!”
Stuart has expanded his menu to include breakfast bagels and says that the menu is flexible including daily specials “If we’ve got it in I’ll put it on. I do requests for people” Another service offered by Nice Bites is lunch orders for businesses and offices, as well as outside catering and party platters. Stuart says it is “perfect for offices who are in a rush and want fresh food cooked by a real chef!” Stuart would love to be a part of the proposed new market which is currently scheduled to open in 2019.

I’ve eaten at Nice Bites and it was gorgeous, really tasty. I’m definatley going again…well done 🙂
With having coeliac disease it’s very hard to find anywhere to get food on the go, nice bites offers just that. All the seasoning are gluten free and they also have gluten free wraps so your not missing out AMAZING!! The food is very tasty and it’s brilliant to be able to watch the chef prepare the food right in front of you, also the price is very reasonable, if you haven’t tried it yet I promise you, you will not be disappointed!
